Project Overview

  • Shrewsbury House is a 100 Year old, Grade 2 Listed, community centre located at the top of Shooters Hill, Woolwich.

  • Our scaffolding division has been working to provide a temporary roof to facilitate much-needed roof and window repairs to the stunning grade 2 listed building.

  • We then monitored and amended any issues that arose during the roofing process.

Project Key Challenges

  • As a grade 2 listed building, there are restrictions on what can be done when erecting a scaffold.
  • The work was challenging because it is a live, occupied building that needed to continue functioning. The team had to coordinate closely with the building owners and residents.
  • Specific challenges included managing an exclusion zone and public protection, as well as designing a bespoke temporary roof structure that met all the requirements for a listed building.
  • As the building is located at the top of a hill, the wind needed to be factored into the design.

Quotes from ESS Staff

accidents, and the client and building occupants are happy
with the results. Thank you to the whole team for their
efforts”
